Description
Apple Day is our national celebration of our apple orchards and local distinctiveness. Join in the fun and help with the juicing. There will be a display and apples for sale. Andrew Tann, who is an authority on apples and grows over 150 varieties of applies in his 15-acre orchard, will be on site to help identify the variety of any mystery apples that you have growing in your garden; bring them along! Visitors are able to explore both the Gardens and parts of the Mansion, including the Stables and cellars, at their leisure. There are no guided tours, but Room Stewards will be on hand to answer questions and there will be a "10-minute Introductory video" in the mansion. Tea, coffee, home-made cakes and light lunches will be available, as well as a bar selling alcoholic drinks. Shaw's barbecue will also be on site, and an ice-cream van for children of all ages. You will also be able to see the Chingford Morris Men performing traditional dances. The Harlow Brass Band will be back by popular demand and Henry VIII and his court will be making a return appearance. There will be stalls, exhibitions, home-made and home-grown produce for sale and a number of children's events, including a straw castle for children of all ages. The Trust shop will also be open as well as the popular second-hand book stall. The Friends desk will be there to deal with any enquiries on the day. The Walled Garden will be selling plants. This is a ticketed event but it will be possible to buy tickets at the entrance, but at a higher price than on-line. Dogs are welcome in the grounds of Copped Hall, provided they are kept on a lead. Assistance dogs only are allowed in the Racquets Court, but dogs are not allowed in the Mansion.
