This study day is planned to be held on the Ground Floor of the Mansion. The event is suitable for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users wishing to attend however should contact the Box Office to allow the organisers to make appropriate arrangements and to check about any changes to the event location.
Description
We are delighted to welcome Ann Mills back to Copped Hall for this New Format, Practical Study Day.
Mars is the 4th Planet from the Sun in our Solar System. In many ways it is similar to Earth and in other ways very different. Space Exploration by many nations is focused on landing on the Moon and then on to Mars.
In the morning session we will explore the geology of Earth compared to Mars. We will examine and handle real Earth Fossils, evidence of early life on Earth. We will handle Earth Rock Samples including some of the oldest rocks on Earth, and understand how plate tectonics has shaped our planet.
How similar is the geology of Mars? What is the evidence of water in the past and present? Was there life? I
n the afternoon session we will share Space Exploration updates on the various missions, including the Artemis Mission to the Moon and plans for Humans to land on Mars.
The Study Day is suitable for beginners.
