Copped Hall Ground Floor. The location is suitable for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users wishing to attend should contact the Box Office so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Delegates should bring their own packed lunch, although Tea and Coffee will be available.
Description
In this Study Day, Dr Alan White will present the research he has undertaken, looking at the people working on the Copped Hall estate from the late 1860s to the early 1900s. The focus of the talk will be the farms on the estate, and those who worked them. This will include in most cases the tenant farmers. The primary sources drawn on will be the 1869 estate sale catalogue, the census returns and reports in local newspapers. It will be of interest to those whose families worked on the estate and, more generally, those who are curious about the lives of people who sometimes get overlooked in social historical research.
You may wish to bring a pad and pen to take notes as the research undertaken by Alan may provide ideas for your own family history research project.
