THE FRIENDS were set up by the Trust in 1998 to enable people who care about Copped Hall to support the Trust and its objectives. Since 1998 the Friends have made a substantial contribution to both the restoration process (particularly the gardens) and the manning of events. There are now over 1200 friends.

By joining The Friends of the Copped Hall Trust you can help secure the future of this important house and gardens. The Friends are supporters of the Copped Hall Trust and its objectives.

Chairman of the Friends Report

Since I wrote to you last autumn it seems to a lot of us like an eternity has passed. We are certainly living through strange times. One thing I am certain of is that Copped Hall will continue to thrive and, once we come out the other side, the project will be as strong as ever.

Many of you know that I started volunteering at Copped Hall as a tour guide and over the last decade have immersed myself in its fascinating history. Copped Hall has been through centuries of change, whether that be political turmoil, war or indeed fire. I believe this period of difficulty will be yet another point in our history.

You will all be aware that the Trust has followed government advice and cancelled many of our events at the start of the year as well as closing down the site to visitors. The Trust and Friends remain in constant contact throughout this time.

As a volunteer led project we are in the fortunate position of the Trust owning Copped Hall in its entirety. The Friends of the Copped Hall Trust will continue to work behind the scenes to support the Trust and our community of friends.

In the mean time I am looking towards the end of the year and the events that will showcase Copped Hall. Museums At Night in October will focus on lost houses and will feature a lecture on Wanstead House, one of the first great Palladian houses and of course a neighbour of Copped Hall.

The Friends of the Copped Hall Trust are the heart of the project. On behalf of the Committee of Friends of the Copped Hall Trust we would like to thank you all for your continued support and we wish you all the best in this difficult time. I look forward to seeing you all in the future.
